How To

Google Chrome will open PDF files in a browser window or tab by default. If you would prefer to download a PDF and open in a PDF application such as Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader, you will need to configure Google Chrome to do so by following these steps.

Step 1 – Ensure that you have a PDF application such as Adobe Reader and or Foxit Reader installed on your computer and that it is the Windows default PDF viewer.

Step 2 – In Chrome, go to the “Menu” icon, then choose “Settings“.

Step 3 – Scroll to the bottom and select “Advanced“.

Step 4 – In the “Privacy and Security” section, select “Site Settings“.

Step 5 – Scroll down and select “PDF documents“.

Step 6 – Switch the “Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome” to the “On“ position.

PDF files will now download in Chrome just like any other file. Select the downloaded file at the bottom of the window, then choose “Open”. The file will open in a separate Reader window.
